The first day of the 3rd Digital Substation and Primary Equipment Workshop, organized by CIGRE Paraguay and held at Itaipu Binacional in Paraguay, brought together technicians, specialists, and power sector professionals in an environment focused on infrastructure modernization, knowledge exchange, and the practical application of digital substation solutions.
One of the main highlights of the opening sessions was the presentation of experiences from companies already operating with digital substations, sharing achieved benefits, overcome challenges, and lessons learned throughout their implementation journeys. This type of content proved essential for accelerating sector maturity, transforming practical experience into collective learning.
In a scenario where digitalization continues to advance rapidly, topics such as IEC 61850, IEC 61869-9, communication networks, time synchronization, cybersecurity, and the operation and maintenance of Process Bus and Station Bus have become increasingly important. The workshop served as a space to discuss these pillars from a technical and applied perspective, connecting theory, field experience, and strategy.
Hosting the event at Itaipu further reinforced its importance. The power plant is globally recognized as a benchmark in energy generation and symbolizes scale, integration, and operational excellence. Holding a workshop of this scale in such an environment significantly increased the relevance of the discussions, especially when the goal was to strengthen solutions capable of improving reliability, interoperability, and efficiency within the power system.
In addition, the meeting promoted integration among specialists, manufacturers, and technical committees, creating a strong foundation for sharing experiences and evolving practices adopted in digital substations.
