Conprove carried out a technical visit to the Capim Branco Hydroelectric Plant, accompanied by the team from Hidroelétrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB), Mozambique, as part of the Training Program for Small Hydropower Plant (CGH) Operators. This activity was included in the practical module of the course and aimed to provide participants with a real, hands-on view of the operational processes of small hydro plants (CGHs).

This technical immersion strengthened learning, enabling operators to develop essential skills for safe, efficient operation aligned with best practices in the power sector.

Integrating theory with operational practice

Conprove’s training followed a structured approach that combined technical fundamentals, procedure analysis, case studies, and field activities. The plant visit complemented this methodology by:

  • Demonstrating, in practice, how the plant’s equipment and systems operate
  • Showcasing operational routines and safety procedures
  • Presenting supervision, control, and protection systems
  • Exploring real operational scenarios, alarms, and contingencies
  • Strengthening decision-making in an operational environment

This experience significantly contributed to developing operators who are more confident, qualified, and prepared to handle both routine and emergency situations.

International experience and technical exchange

The presence of the Hidroelétrica de Cahora Bassa team—one of the largest hydroelectric plants in Africa—added a valuable layer of experience sharing to the program. This technical exchange:

  • Promoted alignment of operational best practices
  • Reinforced understanding of different generation architectures
  • Expanded participants’ perspective on challenges and solutions across diverse energy environments

Conprove valued and encouraged these initiatives, as they contributed to the global development of power-sector professionals.

Why field experience matters for CGH operators

Practical training inside a plant enabled operators to:

  • Understand real equipment behavior
  • Identify critical points and essential procedures
  • Observe the interaction between protection, control, and operation
  • Recognize performance indicators and operational risks
  • Strengthen situational analysis skills

This field experience significantly reduced operational errors, increased safety, and improved efficiency in CGH operation.

Commitment to high-level technical training

Conprove maintained a continuous commitment to excellence in training power-sector professionals. The Training Program for CGH Plant Operators was developed to meet the technical and operational demands of a constantly evolving market, offering:

  • Up-to-date content
  • Experienced instructors
  • Hands-on activities
  • Integration with real equipment
  • Specialized technical support
